Dragon Con 2017: The Dragon Awards

by Beth
Last year I encouraged you to sit on your ass, and vote for the first annual Dragon Awards. This year I encourage you to do the same thing. I didn't get on in time for the nominations so if you want to have a hand in choosing the nominees next year look for the nominations process to start in early July. I'm a little mad at myself about it too since Thrawn didn't get a nomination. Just because you didn't get nominate your favorite whatever it is you like doesn't mean you can't still participate though.

If you don't know the Dragon Awards are given to outstanding work in all kinds of nerdy things, and I'm sure most of us have an opinion in at least a few of the categories. They cover everything from books (of many different genres), comics, TV, movies, and games (from video and mobile to table-top). Want your voice to be heard? Now's your chance. Follow this handy link to see last year's winners, register to vote for this year's nominees, and find out anything else you might like to know. Even if you aren't attending Dragon Con this year (I'm sorry about all great stuff you'll be missing) you can still vote. Registration to vote closes on August 28th so you've got plenty of time to make some difficult choices. Just like I had to make the very tough decision whether to give you ample voting time or writing about Game of Thrones again. Hey, I just noticed that Game of Thrones isn't nominated for the TV category. Man, I have got to pay more attention to the nomination deadline from now on. I'm going to make a note in my calendar for next year right now...

What are you waiting for? Go vote. Or rather, have a lengthy debate with yourself about the best property under each category, and then go vote. Since it's all anonymous no one will ever know if you for some reason think that Arrival was better than Rogue One, Doctor Strange, Logan, or Wonder Woman. I would totally judge you if I found that out, but your secret shame is safe from me.

Beth got her start writing for a site called Movie Criticism for the Retarded (which has been reborn as dorkdroppings.com. Check it out sometime), but was pulled out of an early retirement to write for Needless Things. When she isn't writing she plays video games and watches bad horror movies while eagerly awaiting the zombie apocalypse. She may try to save her husband and/or their cats, but luckily hasn't had to make those tough decisions yet. Follow beth0rama on Instagram or on Twitter @NeedlessBeth where she doesn't post often enough to be annoying, but updates way more than Google+
