Toy Review – Batman ’66 TV Masters Penguin By Mattel

To me, Penguin is the main bad guy of the old Batman TV show.
Side Note: I have been struggling with how to refer to the show. It has been known colloquially as “Batman ‘66” for a few years now and I think that can be almost 100% attributed to Chris Sims. But that’s not the actual name of the show, so I don’t want to call it that. But I also can’t just call it “Batman” because that encompasses lots of things. So I guess I’m taking the less concise route and calling it “the old Batman TV show”. Thankfully I don’t feel the need to add in “with Adam West” every time.

TV Review: Agents of SHIELD (plus Sleepy Hollow)

This post is late because I wanted to be able to put my thoughts on the new Marvel Studios show out there.
I liked it a lot. I didn’t love it, but the foundation was set for me to feel that way in the future. I think it was very smart to keep the pilot somewhat grounded and basic. We got a mild introduction to the cast of characters, the nature of this portion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was established, and the overriding conflict was set up. Nothing too heavy was thrown at us and nothing too concrete was, either. At this point we really don’t know what to expect from the show and I think that’s a good thing.

Comic Book Update: September 2013

It’s been a little too long since my last Comic Book Update, but I’ve had a lot going on. I’ve actually been wanting to write this for about a month now, and if I had done it back when I first wanted to it would have fallen in line with the time between the others – about three months. But here it is now – wedged in between my Dragon Con-nery and 31 Days of Halloween.

Toy Review – Batman ’66 TV Masters Joker By Mattel

Like yesterday's pics, these were taken under less-than-ideal circumstances.
As much as I was looking forward to the Batman and Robin figures from this line, I might have actually been most excited about this figure of Caesar Romero as Joker.

Toy Review – Breaking Bad Heisenberg By MEZCO

Sorry for the poor quality of these pictures - they were shot in a different place.
Like pretty much everybody that has seen Breaking Bad, I absolutely love it.

Every episode except for one has been excellent. Not just good, not just entertaining – excellent. Well-paced, integral to the overall narrative, and enthralling. I can’t think of another show with that kind of track record – especially one with as many episodes under its belt. Firefly is as near to perfect as I’ve seen and it was only thirteen episodes and a movie.

Best Cartoon Ever (of the Month) – The Centurions by Kalan

Hey! You there! You look like the kind of person who could really appreciate turning anything and everything into a cyborg and who may (or may not) be bent on world domination utilizing said cyborgs.
“Why, madam, you're absolutely correct,” you say?
HOW COULD I HAVE KNOWN?!?!?!

Toy Review – Batman ’66 TV Masters Batman and Robin 2-Pack (TRU Exclusive) By Mattel

I mentioned in Tuesday’s Batmobile review that I was totally stoked about that Batmobile toy coming out and might have understated my level of excitement about the actual figures.
I was very excited about the figures.

Toy Review – Batman ‘66 TV Masters Batmobile From Mattel

I am squeezing this into my Dragon Con posts for two reasons, one slightly less acceptable than the other:
1) I mentioned this toy at the action figure panel – which you can listen to as part of the Needless Things Podcast: Episode 10 – and did a brief review of it for the audience because somebody asked. So this is sort of part of that, which was part of Dragon Con.

2) I didn’t have anything Dragon Con-related to post today and I didn’t want to post two Podcast episodes in a row. For some reason.
I can’t think of the last line that I was anticipating as much as I was Mattel’s Batman ’66 TV Masters.

Dragon Con 2013: Needless Things Podcast Episode 11 - The Masters of the Universe Panel with William Stout

By the Power of the American Sci-Fi Classics Track… I HAVE THE POWER!

Fabulous powers were revealed to me when I held aloft my mic and started running my mouth about dork shit.

Dragon Con 2013: Day 4 – Sunday

Once again I need to cove a little bit of the night before I get to the next day. Though technically I suppose it was Sunday by the time I got back to Dragon Con after The Happy Ending. And the first thing I saw? Evil in his Not Mandarin costume:
That shit is amazing. He even got the right shirt.

Dragon Con 2013: Le Sexoflex: The Happy Ending

WARNING: Most of the images beyond the jump are not fit for viewing by most mortals.

There’s not much that could persuade me to leave Dragon Con. As I’ve said many times – my favorite kind of getaway is a literal getaway. Where I can immerse myself in a different world or environment as far away from reality as I can get. Dragon con is pretty good for that, as you can hang out with 50,000 like-minded folks inside of hotels for four days with minimal exposure to the gross streets of Buttlanta outside.
But when Le Sexoflex puts out the call to Phantom Troublemaker that they are having their last show and want him there; you better believe I’ll go. And besides, if a Le Sexoflex show isn’t an escape from reality I really don’t know what else is.
The only other time I have left Dragon Con early was when I had a kidney stone in 2008. That was some serious shit. This was even more seriouser.

Dragon Con 2013: Needless Things Podcast Episode 10 - The Toy Panel

I am so frazzled I'm not even sure what to write at the moment.

I'm getting over Con Crud, which I think delayed my, “Holy shit that was a busy and productive Dragon Con and how did I get so much done and FUUUUUUUU...” reaction. I was diagnosed with Acute Pharyngitis (which translates to “sore throat and tons o snot”, which is a palindrome) and basically spent all of last week laying around watching Sons of Anarchy and not thinking very much.

Dragon Con 2013: Day 3 – Saturday

Friday Night

Technically the narrative picks up Friday night after DCW, but it was almost Saturday and I don’t want to still be posting Dragon Con stuff in October, so I’m going with “Day 3 – Saturday”.

Dragon Con 2013: DCW

Ladies and gentlemen and Phantomaniacs around the world – it is time once again for me to recap the greatest and best wrestling show that happens all year long!

Dragon Con Wrestling

That’s right – Dragon Con Wrestling happened again, all over the Hyatt Centennial Ballroom at Dragon Con. There were thrills, there were chills, there were spills, and there were LUCKY FUCKING CHARMS.

Dragon Con 2013: Day 2 – Friday

Draw me like one of your French girls.
I got up at 7:30 AM on Friday.

No – really.

It was nothing short of a miracle, because getting out of bed at 7:30 AM just is not something I do. Especially after a night of incredibly strong Mai Tais and incredibly weak hillbilly beer. But I think what got me going was my concern for waking up the Evils. My phone alarm had been going off for a minute before I was totally awake and I had that shock of, “Oh, shit! I don’t want to wake them up at 7:30 AM!” going through my system. So as soon as I deactivated the alarm – which take a second because you have to swipe the screen in the right way and that is not something that comes naturally to me at 7:30 AM or any other time of the day – I was awake.

Dragon Con 2013: Day 1

Well, Dragon Con 2013 is all over now and I am back at work. A lot of people posted about the post-Con blues on Monday night and Tuesday, but my blues didn’t hit until I woke up at 3:30 this morning and realized that the magical experience that I had this past weekend was over and that dull reality was inevitable.

Being able to spend some relaxing time with my family on Monday and Tuesday kept my spirits high. So did the fact that this year’s Con was satisfying and productive in a way that dwarfed the feelings of accomplishment I had after Dragon Con 2012. Everything was bigger and better.

But I’ll get to all of that over the next few days. For now, I have to start at the beginning. I have to start with Thursday night when I pulled into the Hilton garage and entered the alternate reality known as

Dragon Con

Dragon Con 2013: Exciting Images!

It is the Wednesday after Dragon Con and I have not yet had time to put any posts together. I hope you enjoyed what were hopefully Evil’s Star Wars Black reviews in the last two days.
Side Note: Oops. Guess not.
I am back at work today and will be slaving away on my massive and annual Dragon Con Recap, which could run all the way from tomorrow through next week. We’ll see. I’m writing this on the Sunday before Dragon Con, so who knows what’s going to happen?

Dragon Con 2013: Heeeeeere's CALABRESE!

This is my sad attempt at not missing two entire days. There were five more posts that were supposed to be coming in over the last week, but they just didn't happen. I wasn't the only one busy with Dragon Con stuff, I guess. I could let yesterday go since it was a holiday, but today needs... something.
