Mad Matty March

Sorry for the lack of pictures, but I thought this was worth posting about. I just don’t have the time to track down pics. I’m sure Matty’ll have them up tomorrow for the sale. Maybe I can help you guys choose some cool new toys; maybe I can help you avoid some pieces of shit.
So anyway, MattyCollector.com is doing another biog sale on some of the stuff they offer. Some will be 30% off and some will be 10% off and there are great items in both categories. I’m just here to offer comments on the items and give the ol’ Troublemaker perspective.
The sale starts at noon (EST) tomorrow and goes until sometime on the 20th of March. There are usually at least a couple of items that sell out instantly (I missed out on King Grayskull last time), so log on early and get you some.
I've linked to the items I've reviewed here on Needless Things in case you want a more in-depth look.
THIS STUFF IS 30% OFF
  • DCU 6" Superman
I still Don’t understand why this was ever offered online. Isn’t it just a regular old Superman? And haven’t we gotten enough of these already? I’ve ended up with three Supermans and I’ve never bought a single carded figure of the Man of Steel. He just keeps getting packed with characters I want.
  • DCU Classics Figure Stands
I don’t get these, either. All my figures stand up pretty well. But I also just don’t like stands in general.
This is a fine figure. If you need a regular Ray, now is the time.
Same here. This is the best 6” scale Dr. Venkman you’re ever likely to find.
  • Infinite Heroes Figure Stands
If these are compatible with other 3 ¾” lines they might be worth the price for 30% off. If you like stands.
  • JLU Darkseid & Kalibak 2-Pack
I don’t own it because I don’t collect JLU, but these figures look great. They’re extremely pricey normally, so if you want them you should jump on this sale.
  • JLU Figure Stands
Same deal as the Infinite Heroes stands. Although I would think these are more necessary because those JLU figures have tiny ankles.
This is a fantastic toy and a must-have for any Masters of the Universe fan. I almost want to order another one just because the price is so darn good. He’s worth it even for the full thirty dollars.
  • MOTUC Castle Grayskull Diorama & Stands
Don’t be misled – there is no diorama here. There is a tiny section of green brick wall on one side of the stand. Personally, I think these would detract mightily from the look of my MOTUC shelves. You may not agree.
A good figure that I skipped at first and actually still don’t have. Mine is from the He-Man/Superman 2-pack (one of the Supermans I own) that I bought after He-Man went on sale originally and before Matty started reissuing him every few months and then finally putting him on permanent sale. I might actually buy one of these just so I have a for-real one. The one from that 2-pack is a little ticklish, what with all the pink.
Just as good as Battle Cat and just as on sale. Buy him. I, for one, am glad he’s not flocked.
Even though they offered Bubble Power She-Ra with different articulation to sit astride Swiftwind, this is still a very good Princess of Power. Buy one for that special lady in your life. She’ll be pleased.
Need an extra Skeletor for your Demo-Man head? BUY ONE NOW. Even if you don’t have a Demo-Man, BUY ONE. Skeletor rules and this figure is great. Also, you can get Demo-Man for 10% off below!
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Batman
I just don’t care for this figure. He’s the first Retro-Action DC figure I bought and I never bought another. He’s just too weird looking. I think it was a mistake to do the removable mask.
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Black Adam
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Darkseid
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Green Arrow
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Guy Gardner
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes John Stewart
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Martian Manhunter
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes SHAZAM!
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Sinestro
  • Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Superman™
  • Voltron Blazing Sword Voltron
Man, for 30% off I almost want to buy another one of these. I never took mine out of the awesome musical packaging, so I’d really like to have one to open up.
THIS STUFF IS 10% OFF
  • Ghostbusters II 2-Pack with 12” Winston Zeddemore & Peter Venkman
I owned a couple of the 12” Ghostbusters figures and ended up selling them on eBay. Make of that what you will. In all fairness, they aren’t bad figures at all, especially when you compare their price against Sideshow or Hot Toys. But they definitely fall far short of the quality of those companies. Also be aware that you do not get enough of either color of coveralls to outfit you figures, so if you buy this set and the one below you’ll have four Ghostbusters in differently-colored suits. If you care about that sort of thing.
  • Ghostbusters "Ready to Believe You" 6" Peter Venkman
This isn’t a bad variation on Venkman. If the line had lasted six years and run out of other characters, that is. If anybody buys this, it’s for the included ghost.
  • Ghostbusters 6" Winston Zeddemore with Slime Blower
The slime blower looks pretty awesome and even the slightly retooled Winston figure is cool, but just be aware that you’re not getting anybody else in their Ghostbusters 2 gear.
  • Ghostbusters II 2-Pack with 12' Ray Stantz & Egon Spengler
See above.
I just recently reviewed this one. It’s very good, despite my disappointment with the line.
  • JLU 3-Pack Featuring Goldface / Evil Star / Kyle Rayner
I’ve never collected these unless you count the old Batman: The Animated Series line, and you probably don’t. But they seem like sturdy little figures. Lil’ Troublemaker has a ton we’ve gotten for a song at various thrift stores and used toy stores. Like, a buck apiece. That’s why I’ll never buy any new.
  • JLU 3-Pack Featuring Angleman / Firestorm / Killer Frost
  • JLU 3-Pack Featuring Heatwave / The Flash / Mirror Master
  • MOTUC Battle Armor Skeletor
I still haven’t opened my Battle Armor Skeletor. At one time I had plans to sell him on eBay. I think I even tried once and got no bids. I’m not selling at a loss. I’d rather put a figure I don’t want on my shelf than do that.
Catra’s great. She’s the first female MOTUC figure I owned and she impressed me enough that I bought Evil-Lyn and Teela as soon as I could. The women in this line are very good, even if they don’t sport rooted hair.
  • MOTUC Chief Carnivus
I’ve skipped this guy several times now and can’t see ever picking him up. I’m a huge fan of the 2002 cartoon, but Carnivus just leaves me cold in much the same way as Draego-Man.
This figure is super-awesome and you should totally buy him. Buy an extra Skeletor while you’re at it so you have somewhere to put the amazing extra head that comes with this guy.
A must-have for your shelf. These are great, customizable figures that are worth your dollars. I’ve bought two sets and may well buy another.
He’s a big, yellow monkey. Who doesn’t need a big, yellow monkey?
This is one of my favorites of the whole MOTUC line. He looks awesome. Definitely a buy.
Mer-Man is a solid figure, but unless you specifically like the character you might want to pass. This isn’t one that’s going to amaze anybody or get them hooked on the line.
Moss-Man, on the other hand, is a huge success. His piney-scented greatness is only accentuated by the fact that he’s flocked. This would even be a good novelty gift for a non-collector.
One of the very best figures from the line and my favorite character. You get parts to make Trap-Jaw and Kronus, so buy two!
This would be my favorite Teela if she were a redhead. As it is, she’s just a cool barbarian chick with a blaster. Worth it, though.
If you just want any old Evil-Lyn then this one is pretty good, but if you want a 2002 Evil-Lyn you might want to pass. This one is colored properly and has the 2002 head, but it just isn’t anywhere near accurate. It’s a great-looking figure, but it doesn’t deliver quite what MYP fans want.
If you’ve got some extra cash then you could do worse than stopping by tomorrow and buying some of these items, particularly the 30% off stuff. And you guys know I bitch about Matty all the time, so I wouldn’t be writing this up if I didn’t think it was worth it.
Just be sure to be careful about picking your shipping. UPS costs a bit more but is almost TWICE as fast. “USPS” is not actually USPS until it gets to your town. Before that it is handled by a horribly slow and inept company called “Newgistics”. They are awful. But also be aware that what you pick may not even make a difference, as Matty seems to have a habit of shipping things however the fuck they want.
You know what? Never mind. Don’t spend your money with these assholes. Now I’m all mad at them again.

  1. Wow, I might have to get a Panthor now for that price. I have a Battle Cat who is a great toy, but also who has lived in his box for over a year now, just because I don't have a place to display him. I hope that will change in the future though.

    1. Once the sale started I realized it's 30%/10% off the new, jacked-up prices and was disappointed. I don't know if I think that's lousy or not. Prices go up all the time, but these were existing stock. It's not like they cost more to produce.
