Toy Review - Star Wars: The Clone Wars – TX-20 By Hasbro

This model of droid has appeared in more than a few episodes of The Clone Wars now, so it isn’t surprising that he got a figure. I can’t tell you off the top of my head which episode this deco is from, but you can bet we’ll see several different paint jobs on this sculpt in the future.
First Glance: I think this is one of the cooler droid designs we’ve seen from the prequel era. This guy looks like an old-school 50’s-style robot. I’d love to have a wind-up tin version of him. This was another one I didn’t even hesitate to pick up.

Sculpt: Totally new design. There is a little less articulation here than normal, but TX-20 hardly needs more. He has ball-jointed hips, elbows, shoulders and neck, with standard articulation at the wrists and waist. I love how his abdomen looks like the grill of an old Chevy. This is an eye-catching design that I will definitely buy more than one repaint of if Hasbro does more – and they will.

Design: TX-20’s paint apps look pretty solid except for one thing: his “wear-and-tear” deco looks kind of amateurish. Most of the spots look kind of okay, but the one on the bottom left of his chest looks more like it came off in the packaging or didn’t get painted correctly. I had to look at a couple to make sure it was intentional. Otherwise, Droid Commander looks pretty great. The deco on his face is outstanding.

Accessories: Our droid comes with a regular blaster, a kid-friendly oversized (though not terribly so) missile-launcher and a hologram projector with an attached hologram of Wat Tambor (no relation to Jeffery).

Packaging: Standard Clone Wars packaging. It’s worth noting that TX-20 is part of the newest mail-in offer from Hasbro – a figure of Mon-Calamari Jedi Knight Nahdar Vebb.

Overall: I really like this guy. He is chock-full of personality (for a droid). He is another success from the Clone Wars line that will blend in with your movie-based figures. I just hope future versions tighten up the deco a bit.

Until next time, stay creepy!
